WHAT IS A MYSTERY
SHOPPER?
A
mystery shopper’s mission is to evaluate the customer service and
merchandising of a business (restaurant, boutique, professional care
services, etc.). The mystery shopper’s role is not to find fault
in the personnel or the enterprise, but to offer facts. These
facts will help the client improve the customer service and the
appearance of the store.
WHAT
DOES THE WORK OF A MYSTERY SHOPPER INVOLVE?
After accepting a
mission, the mystery shopper will need to review the evaluation form
and the guidelines for the assigned mission before completing the
mission.
Afterwards, the
mystery shopper should present him/herself in the store as a regular
customer who is shopping for a product or service. A mystery
shopper must always have direct contact with one or more staff members
in the business. For example, the mystery shopper will evaluate
the greeting he/she received upon entry into the store, whether or not
the salesperson met his/her needs, and the appearance of the store,
etc. Once a mystery shopper has completed the visit, he/she must
fill out and return a detailed report to Vision Client.
HOW
DOES VISION CLIENT ASSIGN AVAILABLE MISSIONS?
The Vision Client
regional coordinators are charged with assigning missions to mystery
shoppers. Mystery shoppers are chosen according to the type of
product or service being evaluated and according to their abilities and
availability.
Once a
coordinator chooses a mystery shopper for a mandate, the coordinator in
question, sends the mystery shopper an email offering the details of
the assignment (date, visit period, pay, etc). The mystery
shoppers are free to accept or refuse the mandate. If the mystery
shopper accepts the mandate, the form and the guidelines for the client
will be added to the mystery shopper’s online account.
WHAT
TO DO TO BE A GREAT MYSTERY SHOPPER?
Mystery shoppers must
be objective, discerning and professional and have very good
observational skills. Furthermore, shoppers must have excellent writing
skills, the ability to follow the guidelines for each business, and
respect deadlines set by Vision Client.
